![]() It was Professor Tomlin’s direction that helped show me the little things that if I changed would give the paper an all-new clean, and professional tone. By the end of the quarter I may still have been weak, but I had improved drastically from where I began the quarter. Through the second half of the quarter this became my goal, working on strengthening my professional writing. I understood that I was strongest with casual English and story telling, however I struggled with creating professional, business oriented papers. Giving this real world application to a class really helped me to see the reason for learning the information being taught.Īdditionally as an educator, Professor Tomlin helped me to identify the work that needed to be done in my writing. How we as professionals would be using rhetoric in our careers. However, Professor Tomlin focused the whole class on how rhetoric is used in the real world. Upon signing up for WRD 103 I assumed I would have a similar experience as I did with my high school English classes. As an aspiring filmmaker I didn’t see why I should have to know the result of burning copper, it’s a green flame interestingly enough. The one thing that always bothered me about high school was that I never saw the point in the information I was being told to learn. There are numerous reasons that Professor Tomlin was the best educator I’ve had in the last two years, and it all begins with the way she structured her class. The most helpful teacher I’ve had in the last two years is a professor I had a class with not more then two months ago, Professor Natalie Tomlin. ![]() It’s easy to say that the instructor who cared the least, made the most jokes, watched the most movies, and was there for the most fun was the best educator I ever had. She decided to give me a detention anyways, which infuriated me to no end.Through my education I have had many different types of teachers: the coach who only teaches because he has to, the high strung teacher who thinks your already in college, the teacher who doesn’t really care what happens as long as they get paid, even the teacher that disappeared after six weeks. In the third quarter of that year, I had missed three assignments, and she found this out pretty well into the fourth quarter. Also, in middle school, there was a “three strikes yer out” policy on homework, and detention was the penalty. I maintain that it was stolen, but she gave in later anyways. It didn’t help that I became incredibly bored with math around this time, sure, but what set me over the edge was the time she initially refused to allow me a second chance at turning in a study guide because I lost my binder. She was new at the time, and I didn’t like her teaching very much. ![]() I was lucky enough to have her teach two math courses I was in that year. that year.Īs for my least favorite teacher, I would have to say it was Ms. Also, he was the most kick-ass chaperon for our field trip to Washington D.C. He crammed a ton of references into his lessons, ranging from They Might Be Giants, to Star Wars, to old movies, and we picked up on almost all of them. Aside from being a cool teacher, he was also a cool guy in general he had the same weird sense of humor and personality that a lot of us did. Not only was the subject interesting, but Sivitz taught it like a champ. ![]() He was my eighth grade Civics teacher, and his class was absolutely awesome. So far, my favorite teacher has to be Mr. Any teacher from any grade, from any point through in your education.
